Nabil Fahmy meets Tanzania president

Egypt's foreign minister Nabil Fahmi wound up his visit to Tanzania after meeting Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, the foreign minister and a number of senior officials, foreign ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aty said. Fahmy delivered a message from president Adly Mansour to the Tanzanian president concerning Egypt's views as regards enhancing and developing relations with Tanzania in the political, economic, commercial and military fields. The message also tackled the regional developments and relations with the African Union in general and the Nile issue in particular, Abdel Aty added. Abdel Aty said that the Tanzanian president started the meeting by welcoming Fahmy's visit and stressed its importance in the light of the historical ties between the two countries. President Kikwete also sent his best regards to President Mansour and his wishes of prosperity and development for Egypt. Tanzanian president reaffirmed his full understanding of the importance of the Nile water to Egypt, and that the common principles impose on the upstream countries to notify or hold talks with downstream ones before establishing projects that can affect water flow. Kikwete said that his country would exert every effort that the Nile remains a source of cooperation between the Nile basin countries and to avoid harming Egypt's interests.
