NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow has called for enhancing cooperation between NATO and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab League amid the current situation the region is going through.
NATO can do much more to improve the security situation in the Middle East and North Africa by working more closely with its partners in the region, he said while speaking at the Netherlands Atlantic Association in the Hague.
NATO deputy chief added: "Following the failure of the Arab Spring, parts of the Middle East and North Africa have been engulfed by violence and chaos. Once secure states have become fragile, and once fragile states have failed."
He called on Syrian parties to move to lasting peace and put an end to war so as to enable the International Community to focus on combating Daesh and its extremist ideology.
