NATO foreign ministers will address defense spending and the fight against terrorism at a meeting on Friday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday.
It will be the first time U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will attend a meeting with NATO allies.
Briefing media on the meeting's agenda, Stoltenberg said the ministers would reaffirm the vital bond between Europe and North America.
"We will look at how to further strengthen the transatlantic bond, with more and better defense spending and fairer burden-sharing across the alliance," Stoltenberg stressed.
NATO's role in fighting terrorism would also top the discussions, he said.
A meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission will also be held on the day, in which NATO foreign ministers will review the security situation in eastern Ukraine and discuss NATO's relations with Russia.
Stoltenberg underlined that "NATO has a united position on Russia: strong defense and deterrence combined with dialogue. We are delivering on both."
