Afghan security forces reacted "pretty fast and effectively" to a coordinated, 18-hour Taliban assault in Kabul and three other cities that left three civilians and eight troops dead, NATO said Monday, according to DPA. "These attacks were planned, coordinated and they grabbed the headlines, (but) they did not cause mass casualties and we have the Afghan forces to thank for that," NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said in Brussels. NATO-trained Afghan forces are "getting more capable by the day, the fact that there were no mass casualties yesterday, the fact that they were able to go into action pretty fast and effectively, that testifies to their growing capabilities," Lungescu said.
