A senior Iranian Navy commander announced Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran will expand its presence in free and international waters. Talking to IRNA, Deputy Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Bigham said at present, the Navy has an active role in safeguarding the interests of the Iranian nation in international waters. All movements of extra territorial forces would be scrutinized in the region to counter any possible threats by the enemies, he said. The Navy commander stressed that his forces are well equipped with the most up-to-date electronic warfare hardware, complicated radars and on-shore sites. Condemning anti-Iran sanctions, he reiterated that the imposed sanctions have no effect on the Navy's performance and capabilities.
