Nazif sentenced in illicit gains case

Former Egyptian Prime Minster Ahmed Nazif was sentenced to three years imprisonment on charges of illicit gains Thursday, court documents said. The Cairo Criminal Court imposed the sentence, and a fine of 9 million Egyptian pounds ($1,476,000) after the country's Illicit Gains Authority referred the case to court on allegations he had obtained gifts from press organizations and helped his wife and sons secure government positions, the Egyptian state-run news agency MENA reported Thursday. Nazif served in the administration of deposed President Hosni Mubarak.
