Nepal retains secularism, proposal for Hindu nation rejected by majority

Constituent Assembly (CA) of Nepal has rejected the proposal to declare the country as a Hindu state by scrapping secularism.
During the CA meeting held on Monday afternoon, majority of the lawmakers turned down the idea of Hindu nation in voting process.
The amendment proposal over the issue was submitted by Kamal Thapa, chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal.
The proposal was put to vote by Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang after the party chairman refused to withdraw the proposal.
Though Thapa demanded for a split voting on his proposal, he received the support of only 21 lawmakers. The CA rule requires at least 61 members for a proposal to be put on split backing.
