New security measures unveiled in northern Kenya ahead of festive season

Kenyan authorities have beefed up security in all entertainment joins, prayer venues and public areas in the northern region for visitors and locals ahead of the festive season amid fears of Al-Shabaab attacks. Marsabit County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said all entry appoints will also be sealed by the security forces, who will also provide escorts to public service vehicles operating in the region. "We want every lodge and other tourists' destinations to keep details of their clients' identification documents such as national identity cards or passport numbers," Nakoru said as he announced new measures in the region prone to attacks. He said security forces have moved with speed to curb gun and grenade attacks in the region, where the Somali militant group Al- Shabaab has carried out a series of attacks, including the abduction of foreigners. Nakoru said more police vehicles will be deployed to patrol borders with Somalia and Ethiopia. The new security steps came against the backdrop of grenade attacks in the capital Nairobi and Wajir County in the recent days.
