The Nicaraguan army said Friday that it had captured a speed boat in southern Caribbean and seized 60 bags of cocaine weighing around 1.6 tons. The army said it spotted the suspicious vessel, believed to be traveling from Costa Rica to Honduras, on Thursday night and pulled it in early Friday morning at 32 km southeast of Port Bluefields. Besides the 60 cocaine bags, one bag of marihuana, a package containing an indefinite amount of U.S. dollars, and 15 fuel barrels were also confiscated, the army said. "Also, three alleged Honduran citizens were arrested," added the army. The capture was made as part of Operation Hurricane, an effort by the Nicaraguan army in the southern Caribbean region to fight international drug-trafficking.
