Nigerian army kills hundreds of Boko Haram militants

Nigeria's army killed over 300 Boko Haram fighters in counter-terrorism operations in northeastern state of Borno during the past days, reported Sky news Wednesday.
Several militants, weapons and equipment were captured. Two soldiers lost their lives while 10 others wounded in the operation, said Defense Spokesperson Major General Chris Olukolade in a statement.
He added that the cordon and search operations continued with patrols by troops who have dominated some cleared communities.
Nigeria's military said earlier this week that it had regained control of Monguno, after militants captured the town on Jan. 25. The town lies about 80 miles north of Maiduguri, which has come under fierce assault from the Sunni militant group in recent months.
