Speaking on behalf of the American people, President Barack Obama congratulated the nation of Chad as it commemorates 53 years of independence. Obama noted in a statement released late Sunday by the White House the anniversary by highlighting the nations' shared commitments to peace and stability for the people of Chad and the region. "In the coming year, we look forward to deepening our partnership on issues of mutual concern, from counter-terrorism to promoting human rights to combating the surge in wildlife trafficking, which stands as a grim reminder of our capacity to inflict harm on the natural world," He added. "As you gather with family and friends, I wish the people of Chad a joyous and festive national day celebration." The central africa country on Sunday celebrated its independence from France in 1960.
