The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps will not support any of the candidates in the upcoming presidential election in Iran, a senior IRGC official reiterated. "The IRGC will side with no one in the (presidential) election," Head of IRGC's Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif said in a statement today. He stressed that the IRGC is a legal entity which complies with the law, and noted that it will merely help ensure security of the election and will "never support any given candidate and political stream". The 11th presidential election will take place on June 14, 2013. Registration of the candidates started on May 7 and finished on Saturday. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications. The June presidential election will be held in 120 foreign countries concurrent with Iran.
