OIC asks Indonesia to play role in settlement of conflict in Yemen

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has asked Indonesia to join international efforts in ending conflict in Yemen, an official said here Thursday.

Ambassadors from OIC member countries had met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and conveyed the request, said Indonesian cabinet secretary Andi Widjajanto. "Yesterday (Wednesday) the president met with ambassadors from OIC member countries. At the meeting they requested Indonesia to contribute to settlement of conflict in Yemen,"he said in military headquarters.

Indonesia has frequently sent its soldiers to Middle East countries on peace keeping missions.

The country is to host commemorative events of the 60th Asian- African Conference from April 19 to 24, during which more than 34 heads of states and 3,600 delegates from over 77 countries are to take part in the historical events.
