OIC outgoing chief: People in Arab Spring act randomly

Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) outgoing Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said Tuesday revolutions accompanying the "Arab Spring" were like "volcanoes and earthquakes." Ihsanoglu said in press remarks the Arab people wanted to "have a voice and the right to monitor their economic and natural resources, but they moved in a random manner which caused chaos." He said the OIC has faced many challenges over the past years like in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Iraq. Another major challenge, added the Turkish official, was the use of religion to carry out terrorist acts, in addition to the spread of poverty and unemployment. Ihsanoglu said the OIC has become a major international organization. OIC successor Ayad Madani will start his five-year term next month.
