Ombudsman delegation visits Dry Dock Detention Centre

A delegation from the Ombudsman General-Secretariat visited the Dry Dock Detention Centre and ensured inmates receive winter clothes as per the procedures. The visit followed a letter addressed from the National Institution of Human Rights to the Ombudsman General-General Secretariat on February 12. The human rights watchdog's move followed a report published in a local newspaper claiming detainees are being deprived of winter clothes, Ombudsman Detention Centres Control director Hamad Salman Taqui said. The delegation met Dry Dock Detention Centre officials in charge of receiving and handing over clothes for detainees. They said that they hand over clothes to inmates after twenty-four hours once they are screened to ensure they don't include any banned products which may endanger detainees' safety.
