Over 1200 drug related cases exposed in Myanmar's Shan State

A total of 1,228 drug related cases were exposed in northern Shan State of Myanmar in 2013, up 276 cases compared with the same period of 2012, official media reported Monday. In 2013, a total of 1,350 men and 1,014 women were arrested due to drug-related cases compared with 1,024 men and 179 women in 2012, said the New Light of Myanmar. Most of the cases exposed in the northern Shan State were related to heroin, opium, stimulant tablets and pseudoephedrine cases. In 2013, the authorities concerned and police force captured three opium refineries in Hsenwi, Kutkai and Kutkai Townships in northern Shan State, according to the Shan State Anti-Drug Police Corps. In Shan State, Special Anti-Drug Squads are carrying out drug elimination tasks. Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control is striving with utmost efforts to eliminate narcotic drugs across the nation including border regions.
