
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif urged the United Kingdom to continue supporting Pakistan in its efforts to secure GSP Plus status with the European Union, said an official press release on Thursday. According to the press release, the prime minister met British Foreign Secretary, William Hague to discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. They expressed satisfaction over the direction and trajectory of the relationship and the focus of the meeting was laid on the government of Pakistan's priorities of revitalizing the economy, dealing with energy crisis, creating a pro-business and pro-investment climate, and improving the security situation. The British Foreign Secretary, William Hague arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday on a two day official tour following the visit of British Prime Minister David Cameron earlier this month. The two sides noted that the visit of Prime Minister David Cameron last month had sent the right message for an enduring partnership between the two countries. The Foreign Secretary expressed full support for all the initiatives and reaffirmed British friendship for Pakistan and Britain's desire to contribute to Pakistan's development and prosperity. The British High Commissioner Adam Thompson and other senior officials accompanied the British Foreign Secretary. The Prime Minister was assisted by the Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Secretary.
