Pakistani official blames Karzai for spoiling peace talks

A senior Pakistani official has accused former Afghan president Hamid Karzai and Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) for spoiling peace talks with the Taliban group, Khaama news agency reported.

The official said the decision to reveal Mullah Mohammad Omar’s death amid peace talks was unwise.

The official did not elaborate further on how the former president and Afghan intelligence spoil the peace efforts.

He said there was a strong possibility of reaching an understanding with the Taliban group to reduce violence as eight Taliban shura members were ready for 2nd round of talks.

The remarks by the senior Pakistani official come as relations between Kabul and Islamabad hit an all time low following a series of deadly attacks in the capital Kabul apparently orchestrated by militant groups based in Pakistan.

In the meantime, the former president appeared in a 2-hour interview broadcast by Tolo TV on Thursday night slamming Pakistan for trying to have control on Afghanistan’s foreign policies towards India, recognition of Durand Line and interference in internal affairs of Afghanistan.

Karzai said Pakistan wants an uneducated, poor, helpless and exhausted Afghanistan, insisting that they will never allow this to happen.

Karzai also slammed the US for adopting dual politics towards Afghanistan and said the main sanctuaries of terrorism located on the side of Durand Line was never targeted during the past 13 years.
