Pakistani PM eyes extraordinary measures to tackle serious security situation

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan is undergoing a serious security situation that needs extraordinary measures to be addressed.According to an official press release, the PM while chairing the Federal Cabinet meeting at his office referred to the All Parties Conference (APC), which was convened earlier and said that all the political parties endorsed its decisions.Earlier last year, all political parties in APC agreed to hold talks with militants and negotiate peace with them. The meeting was called after two consecutive militant attacks targeting Pakistan military killing 34 people including security men mostly in two days.PM Nawaz said that APC also endorsed the stance that economy and security of Pakistan would not be played upon for gaining political mileage and most of the political parties had shown maturity in this regard. He added that cross border illegal movement at the porous border between Afghanistan and Pakistan needed to be curbed.The cabinet was given a comprehensive briefing on Internal Security Policy draft and after extensive discussions it was decided to incorporate suggestions and proposals given by the cabinet members, said the press release. The Prime Minister said, "We would do whatever possible to restore peace, alleviate poverty and put the country on the road to progress, we have to establish rule of law and create a society based on equality, justice and mutual respect."
