Thousands of Pakistani people have held a large anti-government demonstration in the southern city of Karachi to protest against what they call Islamabad's pro-US policies, Press TV reports. The protest, organized by the country's largest religious party Jamat-e-Islami, was held on Sunday while the protesters also called on the government to resolve high inflation and energy crisis in the country of 180 million inhabitants. “America has been always trying to pursue their foreign policy, which is against the interest of Pakistani people and the government of Pakistan,” Mehanti Mehanti from Jamat-e-Islami party told Press TV. The demonstrators said the “pro-West policies” of Pakistani government has “brought the economy of Pakistan to the brink of collapse.” Speakers at the rally said that “the puppet rulers” have ruined Pakistan's economic infrastructure such as railways, its airlines and the steel mills. Last week, tens of thousands of people also took to the streets of Karachi to protest what they called government corruption.
