Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz's (PML-N) candidate, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected to the post of Speaker of the 14th National Assembly on Monday. PML-N secured the majority seats in the May 11 general elections and nominated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as the Speaker who got 258 votes from the National Assembly to win the post. Pakistan Peoples Party withdrew its candidate in the last minute to support PML-N whereas the candidate of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf got 31 votes. Mutahida Qaumi Movement candidate secured 23 votes in the secret ballot. The PML-N nominated Murtaza Javed Abbasi for the post of deputy speaker and the elections for the post were also conducted. The result of deputy speaker are to be announced after the counting of votes. The outgoing Speaker Fehmida Mirza administered the oath of the 19th Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. After the transfer of authority, the election of Deputy Speaker is caurrently under way .
