Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki said Tuesday in an interview that the Palestinian leadership will call a vote on the application for statehood membership in the United Nations Security Council, even without nine votes out of all 15 council members. Speaking to Voice of Palestine radio, al-Malki said the vote will hold the council state members to their responsibility. The Palestinian current strategy is to continue to head to the Security Council until Palestine is granted full membership, stressed al-Malki, noting that the Palestinian application faces opposition from Israel as well as the US, which has repeatedly threatened to veto the application if a vote was called for.
