Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al Maliki said on Tuesday the Palestinian Authority (PA) intends to activate a request - pending at the UN Security Council since 2011 - to have a full membership at the international organization.
Maliki has asked for support from the Arab quartet committee, Arab countries and the Arab League in this regard.
"We asked for help with an integrated plan to end the Israeli occupation in 2017," Maliki said in statements before leaving Cairo, where he had attended meetings of the Arab quartet committee, Tuesday.
He also pointed out to an Arab consensus to start negotiating with the UN about a draft resolution on settlements.
"Late as it is, this will be an important step, especially after the recent Israeli escalation regarding the building of settlements."
