Palestinian leader stresses Jerusalem as Palestinian capital

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said here on Friday there would be no peace, stability or agreement unless the occupied East Jerusalem became the capital of Palestine. Addressing the 20th session of Al Quds Committee, which kicked off here earlier in the day, Abbas said he was totally against Israeli attempts to set aside the cause of Jerusalem during peace negotiations. He also challenged that peace talks with Israel should not be viewed as a cover-up for it to continue with settlement activities on the soil of Palestine. He emphasized that a just peace should be based on a Palestinian state on the pre-June 4 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, and a fair solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees as per the UN Resolution 194 and the Arab peace initiative. The Palestinian leader vowed to use all legal, political and diplomatic means, together with resistance, to confront all Israeli moves to wipe out the national constants of the Palestinian people. He appreciated the role played by the Kingdom of Morocco and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the struggle and steadfastness of the Palestinian people until they regain their freedom and independence and have their own Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
