Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad called on Sunday for finding true causes behind death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli Megiddo Prison. Prime Minister Salam Fayyad expressed in a statement "deep sorrow and shock over martyrdom of prisoner Arafat Jaradat in Israeli occupation prisons." He "affirmed the need to promptly disclose the true reasons that led to his martyrdom," the statement added. "This matter itself is a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, along with Israel's transfer of Palestinian prisoners from occupied areas such as the West Bank to Israeli prisons for interrogation," the prime minister pointed out. He stressed that the international community bears moral and legal responsibility toward such arbitrary practices by Israel and called for taking immediate action to ensure good treatment of Palestinian prisoners, especially those on hunger strike and the sick. Fayyad called on Israel to release children, administrative detainees, veterans as well as members of the Legislative Council from their prisons. (end) mzt.hs KUNA
