Palestinian terrorist leader arrested in Lebanon

The Lebanese army said Wednesday that it arrested a Palestinian leader of al-Qaida-linked "Abdullah Azzam Brigades," allegedly the deputy chief of the group's front in Lebanon. The army's guidance directorate said in a statement: "After he came out of the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilwen near Sidon in the south, the army intelligence in Beirut made the arrest of Naim Abbas, who is being questioned under the supervision of the judiciary." Following his arrest, Abbas admitted to plotting to blow up a car, the statement said. The state-run National News Agency said the suspect was planning to use the car to create a bombing in Beirut's southern suburb. Abbas has close ties with Sheikh Omar al-Atrash, a cleric from the Bekaa Valley arrested last month and charged with carrying out attacks on domestic and Israeli targets. The "Abdullah Azzam Brigades" claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Beirut on Nov. 19, 2013. The army arrested Saudi National Majed Al-Majed, the top leader of the "Abdullah Azzam Brigades," who died later in army's custody.
