US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barack to reiterate the strong US commitment to Israel's security, the Pentagon announced late Wednesday. Pentagon Spokesman George Little said Panetta commended Israel on agreeing to a ceasefire with the Palestinian Authority, and "expressed hope that no further rockets will be fired from Gaza, and committed to continuing to work together to address the issue of the smuggling of weapons into Gaza." Minister Barack thanked Panetta and the Obama Administration for US support of the Iron Dome counter-rocket system. The system intercepted over 85 percent of rockets fired into Israel, according to Little.
