Paris suicide bomber identified as Belgian-Moroccan citizen

A suspect in the November terrorist attacks in Paris who blew himself up during a police raid days later was a 25-year-old Belgian-Moroccan dual citizen named Chakib Akrouh, the city prosecutor’s office said Thursday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Akrouh had traveled to Syria at the beginning of 2015, a French official said.

His DNA was found on a Kalashnikov left in a car the attackers used to drive around Paris as they shot at people in bars and cafes on Nov. 13, 2015, the official said. The car ultimately was abandoned in eastern Paris. The attackers killed 130 people and injured hundreds.

On Nov. 18, police raided an apartment that Akrouh was sharing in Saint-Denis, a suburb north of Paris, with Abdelhamid Abaaoud,the Daesh operative who is the presumed leader of the Paris attacks.
Akrouh blew himself up during the raid, the prosecutor’s office said.
