Paris university evacuated after bomb threat

Around 2,000 people were evacuated from Paris VIII University in the capital's suburbs on Monday following bomb threats, French broadcaster Europe1 reported. According to local media, police evacuated the public institution after receiving an anonymous call warning of a bombing attempt from a phone booth at 14:00 local time (1300 GMT). Security personnel combed through the site and pronounced the bomb alert as a hoax. A separate bomb alert prompted the evacuation of four secondary schools in Corsica Island in France. Observers believe France is under high threat of terrorist attacks due to its involvement in tackling Islamist insurgents in Afghanistan and the Sahel region. In 1995, explosions in the Paris metro and the Arc de Triomphe caused several casualties.
