Park nominates 2 new members to election watchdog

President Park Geun-hye named two former state prosecutors as new members of the National Election Commission, the presidential office announced Tuesday. The nominations of Kim Jung-ki and Choi Yoon-hee are subject to parliamentary approval after confirmation hearings. The election watchdog is comprised of nine members, with the president, the National Assembly and the Supreme Court chief nominating three members each. Kim, 59, retired as a state prosecutor in 2009 after more than 20 years of service. He has since been practicing law at a firm. Choi, 50, served as a prosecutor from 1991-1998 and is now a law professor at Seoul's Konkuk University. If her nomination is approved, Choi will be the only female member of the current commission, and the third-ever female commission member.
