Immoral actions taken by people who distort the human society’s traditions given by God are unable to destroy moral values forever, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said. “We know what has happened in many countries when in order to become a member of a prosperous and rich society one should give up the faith by adopting blasphemous laws, which are against God’s will and God’s truth,” the patriarch said. The actions by those who “turn people away from Christ by the words and examples destroy the faith” are similar to the actions by those who assassinate people in 1930’s on the Butovo firing range”, Patriarch Kirill said. The patriarch considers the legalisation of homosexual marriages in France one of the attempts to deny God’s truth. “But we know that many people come against such actions. Everyone watched this by television, which broadcast mass protest actions in France against blasphemous laws,” Patriarch Kirill said. He called on Christians to courageously resist the destruction of traditional values. He said more and more people should realise that it “is impossible to come against God’s power because only temporary victories can be won on this path”.
