The situation in Syria is complicated and chances for reaching a peaceful solution have become weak, said Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. The OIC wants to spare Syria the atrocities of war, Ihsanoglu told MENA on the sidelines of a ceremony held by Ain Shams University to award him the honorary doctorate on Thursday. It is the same university Ihsanoglu graduated from in 1966. He said his meeting with United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in Cairo focused on the latest developments in Syria. As for his meeting with President Mohamed Morsi, Ihsanoglu said it was fruitful, adding he briefed him on the general situation in the Muslim world.
