Police clashes with insurgents in Kandahar, 3 killed

A fierce gunbattle between Afghan police and insurgents in Kandahar on Wednesday left at least three police dead, government and hospital officials said. Fighting broke out at 08:30 local time (0400 GMT) and continued for more than an hour, the (BBC) quoted a Kandahar official as saying. The local police commander was reported to be among the dead and at least three other officers were wounded. Local residents said the southern city had been sealed off by foreign forces and Afghan police.
