More than 200 police drillmasters gathered in south China's Shenzhen on Thursday for a contest testing their skills in weapon use and counterterrorism.
The 222 competitors were selected from a nearly 80,000 drillmasters in China's police and they will compete across five days in five events including pistol shooting and simulation of counterterrorism procedures.
The Ministry of Public Security hopes the event will help make the drillmasters better trainers and thereby enhance the combat preparedness of all police. The first such contest was held in 2011.
Chinese President and military leader Xi Jinping has said that fighting capacity should be the sole criterion for testing troops and police.
