Political talks between Egypt, Georgia kick off in Cairo

Political talks between Egypt and Georgia started here Monday with the aim to boost bilateral relations.

The talks today come as part of a plan of action meant to enhance dialogue and consultation with Europe.

Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Hatem Seif el Nasr chaired the meeting.

He reviewed steps taken by Cairo to implement the road map aimed to build a modern democracy in Egypt.

He touched upon preparations to complete the third part of the road map, which is the parliamentary elections that should be conducted before the end of this year.

Seif el Nasr also talked about a government program to achieve economic development. The Egyptian government has taken steps to attract more foreign investments, he said, adding that mega projects, atop of which the New Suez Canal, are being implemented in the country.

The New Suez Canal should be inaugurated during the first week of August, Seif el Nasr noted.

The file of terrorism also figured high in the meeting, with Seif el Nasr warning of its threats not only to Egypt and the region but to Europe as well.

Terrorism, he stressed, is a threat to international security and peace.

Seif el Nasr pressed for international efforts to eliminate all terrorist groups and uproot terrorism.
