President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi met on Monday a US delegation headed by Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Andrew Shapiro and the Commander of United States' Central Command (US-CENTCOM), General James Mattis. In the meeting, President Hadi praised the high level of relations and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and military fields as well as the US support to Yemen during the last crisis. The president briefed the US military delegation on the political, economic and security situations and current developments in Yemen. In addition, President Hadi reviewed the important steps that have been made to meet the requirements of the second phase of the GCC-brokered initiative, including the formation of the Supreme Committee for Elections and the preparatory committee of the national dialogue. He also reviewed the steps taken by Yemen in the fight against terrorism, pointing out the government forces were able to defeat al-Qaeda members in their last strongholds in the towns of Zinjibar and Jaar and other towns in Abyan and Shabwa provinces. For his part, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Andrew Shapiro expressed his happiness for this meeting, praising the excellent cooperation and relations between the United Nations and Yemen. The US official also expressed his country's cooperation and support to Yemen and its leadership for the success of the political steps taken to promote and ensure the success of a political settlement in the country.
