President Morsi meets UN Chief

Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi met here on Wednesday U.N. chief Ban Ki-Moon who returned back to Cairo earlier today after a short visit to Israel and Ramallah. During his stay in Israel and Ramallah, the UN chief held talks with the Israeli and Palestinian officials on effective means to avoid the violence escalation in the Gaza Strip and prospects of reaching a ceasefire there leading to resuming negotiations set to realize a two-state solution. Earlier Tuesday Ki-moon described as constructive ,his talks with Arab League Secrtary General Dr. Nabil Al Arabi, stressing meantime importance of joint action between the international organisation and the Arab League in this respect. Addressing a joint press conference here Tuesday following their talks, Ki-moon said he is visiting the region because of the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip calling however to end the violence and offered same time to help reach a ceasefire between Israel and islamic resistance Hamas movement. The UN chief underlined the need to take urgent measures on part of all parties concerned to avoid further violence, including a possible land operation by Israel , the matter which could further lead to more casualties. ”All parties should respect their respective commitments as per the international human law and ensuring ample protection to the civilians since more violence and escalation would surely place the whole region in risk”, said Ki-moon.
