Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday he hoped more surprise inspections would be conducted in the Russian Armed Forces in 2015.
"I proceed from the fact that it was just a beginning of the work concerning training of Russian servicemen," he said at a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov where they summed up the results of the latest drills. "I know that the results are generally seen as positive."
Shoigu reported to Putin about the exercises. He said it was the first surprise check this year. "Serious conclusions were drawn following surprise checks in 2013 and 2014, we have reported about that," Shoigu said.
A surprise check of combat readiness of the recently formed united strategic command of the Northern Fleet was conducted in the period from March 16 to 21. Shoigu said that the tasks set by President Putin in May 2014 to ensure efficient command from a single center had proved to be solved.
The chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army also assessed the results of the recent drills in positive terms.
