Qatar to host UN anti-crime congress on April 12

Qatar is to play host to the Thirteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice between April 12-19. The congress will be held under the title: "Integrating crime prevention and criminal justice into the wider United Nations agenda to address social and economic challenges and to promote the rule of law at the national and international levels, and public participation".
Every five years, the gathering brings together policy-makers, civil society, academia and experts in crime prevention and criminal justice, the organizing committee announced at a news conference here on Saturday.
Heads of state, premiers and ministers of interior and justice are to be invited to address this event on topics on the agenda in an unprecedented move, it said.
The congress is expected to adopt a single declaration at the end of the event, which will be presented to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, it added.
The conferees will mainly discuss regional and international cooperation in the field of preventing transnational organized crime and the promotion of criminal justice, it added.
The Doha Congress in 2015, which marks the 60th anniversary of the Crime Congress, will consider how best to integrate crime prevention and criminal justice into the wider UN agenda.
The United Nations Crime Congress is the world's largest and most diverse gathering of governments, civil society, academia and experts in crime prevention and criminal justice. For 60 years the congresses have had an impact on criminal justice policies and strengthened international cooperation against the global threat of transnational organized crime.
The First United Nations Congress was held in Geneva in 1955. Sixty years later, this tradition continues with the Government of Qatar hosting the Thirteenth United Nations Congress in Doha.
