
HE the Minister of Justice Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Saqr Al Muhannadi Thursday took part in the opening session of Asian Society of International Law conference, currently being held here under the theme 'The Rule of Law and Development Nexus: A New Deal for Asia'.
Senior local, regional and international officials are attending the conference. In her keynote speech, Chair of the Special Advisory Board to the Thailand Institute of Justice Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol stressed the importance of strengthening legal and legislative cooperation between Asian countries.
HE the Minister met with met Princess Bajrakitiyabha on the sidelines of the conference. During the meeting, they reviewed issues of mutual interest, particularly co-operation in legal and judicial areas.
HE the Minister also met with Asian Society of International Law President Surakiart Sathirathai who is also Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC). They discussed topics on legal, judicial and training areas, ways to promote and develop them besides exchange of experiences.
The two-day conference is discussing a number of legal issues dealing with the rule of law, sustainable development, international law, protection of women and children, organized crime and the fight against drugs, reforms in justice and international law and integration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
A number of recommendations that strengthen Asian legal and legislative co-operation are expected to be issued at the conference.
