Rabbi Ovaldyu Isakov, who was wounded in Derbent overnight to Thursday, was taken home from the hospital, chairman of the Jewish community of Dagestan Shimi Dibiyev told Itar-Tass on Thursday. “I got in touch with the relatives of the rabbi. He is in normal condition. He was taken home from the hospital. The surgery passed successfully. He is getting some rest. I do not know who could attack him. But I believe that the attackers want to present all in the way the Jews are also attacked in Dagestan,” the head of the Jewish community said. “The Jews were never encroached on in Dagestan, we live here in peace with all people, and someone wants to violate it with such provocative acts,” Dibiyev noted. The detectives found that an unidentified criminal has made a gunshot at about 01:00 Moscow time on Thursday at Isakov (it was earlier reported that his name is Artur - Itar-Tass) at 65, Pushkin Street in Derbent at the moment, when he went out from the car and was going to this residential house. The rabbi suffered a penetrating gunshot wound in the breast and was taken to the hospital. The Dagestani investigation agencies opened a criminal case for attempted murder and illegal circulation of weapons, press secretary of the republican branch of the Investigation Committee Rasul Temirbekov told Itar-Tass. It was reported on Thursday that a special airplane with the doctors, who should give medical aid to the injured rabbi, will fly from Israel to Dagestan soon. The Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia arranged for this special flight. Acting Dagestani President Ramazan Abdulatipov condemned the attempt on the life of the rabbi, stating that the criminals, who were shooting at him, “are out of law in the region.”
