City workers in Athens say they will continue a series of strikes over the Greek government's austerity strategy. Trash collection in the capital did not take place Sunday because union collectors were taking part in a downtown protest rally ahead of Parliament's evening vote on a 2013 national budget. The municipal workers union said additional job actions would take place during the week. Austerity protests took place Sunday across Athens, according to ekathimerini.com. Public and private-sector workers staged a rally in Syntagma Square at the same time the PAME union, which is tied to the Communist party, gathered at Omonia Square. Other demonstrations were planned for the streets outside the parliament building where lawmakers convened for their evening budget vote.
