Ramallah residents rally in solidarity with slain Egyptian border guards

A number of Palestinian youth have arranged a rally on Wednesday in solidarity with the 16 Egyptian border guards, who were slain during Sunday's attack at the Egypt-Israel border. The rally took place by Yasser Arafat Square in Ramallah condemning the attack, while holding both the Egyptian and Palestinian flags to highlight unity. The rally demanded the identification of the culprits behind the attack. "The initiative aims to honour the Egyptian martyrs who died while defending their nation," said Hani El-Masri, a political analyst who took part in the rally. Activist Ali Ebeidat echoed El-Masri's words, saying that this is a message to the Egyptian people showing "that Palestinians feel their pain and consider the Egyptian martyrs Palestinians." Ebeidat added that the two Arab nations should not give into Israeli's attempt to incite hatred between them. On Sunday, an attack by unknown assailants on Egyptian border guards at the Egypt-Israel border left 16 guards dead and seven injured. The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, and Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah accused Israel of being behind the attack, however no official identification on the assailants has yet been revealed.(ahram)
