"The events that occurred recently in Sidi Bouzid have no connection with the Constituent Assembly elections and the electoral process," said the Independent Regional Authority for Elections (IRAE) in Sidi Bouzid. These incidents broke out last Thursday before the news conference of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (IHAE) to announce the results of the poll, specifies the IRAE. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Sidi Bouzid IRAE called for the need to speed up the search and investigation operations and to prosecute all those who were involved directly or indirectly in these acts of vandalism. The statement adds that the perpetrators of these acts were seeking to misrepresent the Sidi Bouzid region as a hotbed of tension, underlining that the acts of looting and vandalism that targeted public institutions and private property in the region were organised earlier by groups who have not connection with the Revolution process. The IRAE urges all sides to shoulder their responsibility in combating these attempts aimed to harm Sidi Bouzid, as a city symbol of freedom and dignity.
