
Today, in Harare, officially announced the victory of President Robert Mugabe in the Zimbabwe's presidential election by winning 61% of the votes, in the first round, so as his party won the majority of two thirds of the seats of the National Assembly. Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chairperson, Rita Makarau, said Mugabe won more than half of the votes in the presidential election, therefore he is duly elected president of the Republic of Zimbabwe, will be starting on Saturday. She explained that Mugabe won 61% against his rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who got 34% of the votes. President Robert Mugabe has been in power since the country gained independence in 1980.
