Italian Sen. Luigi Lusi must remain behind bars while awaiting his trial for embezzlement, a court in Rome ruled Tuesday. The Rome court reviewed the case after Italy's Court of Cassation said Lusi's detention should be reassessed following prosecutors' saying they favored Lusi being placed under house arrest, ANSA reported. Lusi is accused of embezzling millions of dollars from the defunct center-left Margherita party. He has been in jail since June, when the Senate approved the prosecutors' request to arrest him. Lusi was expelled from the center-left Democratic Party this year after the corruption scandal became public.
