The Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, has started the 4th edition of its Scientific Research Award, "Today’s Research for a Promising Future", under RTA’s rejuvenated research and development strategy.
The annual award aims to lay the foundation stone for diffusing the culture of scientific research amongst RTA’s employees, and encouraging them to engage in research in various business fields. It also aims to support applied research exploring improvements of RTA’s projects, products and services for the benefit of Dubai in particular, and the UAE in general.
Laila Faridoon, Executive Director of the Office of the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, said, "In its 4th edition, RTA’s Scientific Research Award has reached maturity level in terms of stringent standards and the broad-base participation. RTA is keen on supporting the concepts of innovation and knowledge management through improved techniques of scientific research and intellectual motivation of employees to highlight their abilities through workshops and training sessions held jointly with universities. Research submitted is judged by a panel of members from various universities and academic institutions, and professionals specialised in various fields and categories of the award.
"RTA is keen on cooperating with several universities to enrich the research of participants with the latest developments in the field of research, and with scientific research techniques, which would accordingly help them prepare research aligned with the scientific standards. The award is linked to the eight strategic goals of RTA: Smart Dubai, Integrated Dubai, Smooth Transport for All, Safety and Environmental Sustainability, Financial Sustainability, People's Happiness, Advance RTA, and Asset Sustainability," said Faridoon.
The first meeting discussed suggestions concerning improvement of the award as well as the training plan. The winning researches, which would be announced during the Innovation Week this November, would be utilised in two fronts: in carrying out present and future projects of RTA, and publishing such researches in specialised scientific local and international journals. This step would highlight RTA’s keenness to pursue scientific research methods, and promote the researcher’s name as well. During the meeting, the committee also received suggestions of nominated researches.
