Russia asks Greece to provide materials on stabbing of Russian child

Russia’s Investigations Committee has asked the Greek authorities to provide materials related to a stabbing attack on an eleven-year-old Russian child in Crete, Vladimir Markin, the Committee’s official spokesman told Itar-Tass. “At the request of top officials of the Investigation Committee, a pretrial inquiry into mass media reports on the infliction of bodily damage to an 11-year-old child in Greece has been ordered,” he said. “It has been established that Nikila Onishenko, 11 years old, received numerous stabs in the back, legs and arms May 15 at the parking lot of Mitsis Laguna hotel in the town of Anissaras on the Crete. “The Investigations Committee has requested information on the circumstances of the incident from the appropriate state agencies in Greece,” Markin said. Earlier Thursday, the Attorney’s Office of Iraklion, which is the administrative center of Crete, issued three charges to a 20-year-old national of the Netherlands who is accused of a purported assassination attempt, illegal possession of a knife and robbery. In the course of interrogation by the police, the Dutch whose name was not revealed confessed his guilt in full and produced a detailed description of the crime. Police said in part the man confirmed he had contemplated Nikita’s murder after the boy had exposed the fact that the Dutch notebook and a cell phone had been stolen from him. The criminal, who had been hired by the hotel to entertain the customers, also said he was going to enter the child’s body after completion of work for the hotel. Nikita Onishchenko, his mother and younger brother were spending a vacation at the hotel.
