The issue of protecting Christians from persecution has been raised at the United Nations, relevant specialized agencies, including the Human Rights Council (HRC), should deal with it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on Friday, commenting on the ongoing persecutions on religious grounds in the Middle East.
"No one has forgotten about this issue," he said. "It has been raised at the session of the UN Human Rights Council. A statement initiated by Russia, Lebanon and Vatican with the support of Armenia signed by 65 countries has been adopted."
"This issue has been submitted to the United Nations. Relevant competent agencies, including the Human Rights Council and a number of other structures tasked with preventing discrimination on this or that ground should deal with it," he added.
