Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is going to visit the United Arab Emirates and Oman on February 2-3, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was quoted by Tass as saying on Friday.
"On February 2-3, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is going to visit the Middle East region - notably the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman," Zakharova said.
"In the capital of the United Arab Emirates the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs will be greeted by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Later he will hold talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahayan who also co-chairs the Intergovernmental Russia-United Arab Emirates Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation," she added.
"In Muscat the Minister is going to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Sultanate of Oman and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. After the talks it is planned to sign a document - the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman on mutual cancellation of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports."
"Our common tasks include maintaining regular political dialogue, increasing the volume of trade and investment partnership, and the working together on the projects in areas such as energy, metal industry, agriculture, and infrastructure," she said.
Zakharova noted that the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa will be discussed in detail, with emphasis on the need for a speedy political and diplomatic settlement of current conflicts in the region. She added that special attention will be paid to the settlement of the situation in Syria and on the global oil market.
